This time of the year, we are bombarded with reports of sales figures for retailers both high street and designer, fashion in particular. As interesting as this may be for a short while, I decided I would report on a much more futuristic and, quite frankly, baffling story I happened to stumble upon.
Technological Clothing. This phrase, in my mind, stirs up images along the lines of ‘The Terminator’ or ‘Transformers’, with impressive metallic suits hiding an array of gadgets for any situation. But in reality, they could be a lot more simple, and dare I say, stylish? Well that sure is Intel’s intention, as they have collaborated with brands such as Opening Ceremony, Barneys New York and CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) to create a high-tech collection of wearable technology! Intel’s intention is to create a bracelet, designed by Opening Ceremony, powered by Intel Technology, and based on an existing prototype. Sounds cryptic huh? The aesthetics and function of said bracelet is yet to be revealed, but come Autumn, Barneys New York will be retailing these bracelets at a currently unknown price. This is a huge step forward for the computing industry, wearable technology is not a new concept, but the incorporation of Opening Ceremony to design the aesthetics of this accessory is revolutionary, and will hopefully allow the bracelet to stand alone as a fashion accessory rather than just a wearable piece of tech.
Would you wear technological clothing and accessories? Is fashion and technology a partnership set to last or are they two worlds better kept apart?
