Ever had a jacket that you have loved to death? Literally, loved to death. My leather jacket is staring at me, slumped on is hanger, its sleeves looking sad and dehydrated and in my attempt to ‘chuck on and go’ I broke the zip, the final death sentence of any biker jacket.
Still, all hope isn’t lost. The fashion world is feeling nostalgic at the moment, re-visiting the 70’s. And we all know what that means, plenty of flares, gypsy tops and yes… suede and leather jackets.
It would seem I’m not the only fan of a chunky zip at the moment. Louis Vuitton’s SS15 catwalk show, welcomes exposed heavy zips in denim wear, teamed up with delicate lace tops. Margot Robbie at this year’s Oscars decided to adorn herself in a $1.5million dollar Van Cleef & Arples zip inspired neckpiece and Maison Margiela took the zip back to basics, adding zips all the way down utilitarian shirts and jackets; perhaps he took Madonna’s wardrobe malfunction on board!
But if you aren’t all wrapped up with zips then why not consider adorning your wardrobe with a few buttons? Follow in Celine’s fashion footsteps and create a cute retro look by searching vintage markets or a local charity shop for packs of mixed retro buttons, for a next to nothing price. Add these onto your favourite blazer for an instant wardrobe re-fresh.
With the new release of Mad Max, I can’t wait to go all leather and add a new zip to my pre-loved biker jacket. William Gee offer the perfect range of chunky zips and my particular choice is a metal YKK zip, a classic choice to add to my jacket and go zipping off into the sunset on my bike!
Fasten up for summer!
