We’re excited about this year’s London Fashion Week and to see the new collections from designers, but if you’re unsure as to what the event is all about, here is a quick guide to get you up to speed:
What it’s all about:
From this Friday 18th September until Tuesday 22nd September, London Fashion Week is taking over the capital city. There are over 150 womenswear designers showing their Spring Summer 2016 collections in a new iconic location in Soho. There will be clothing from up-and-coming designers as well as established regulars on show and sections include RTW, emerging RTW, shoes, bags, accessories and multi-label showrooms. The new location includes the British Fashion Council’s show space as well as the designer showrooms.
When it started:
The first London Fashion Week took place in 1984 and the event is considered to be one of the ‘big four’ fashion shows alongside New York, Paris and Milan. In recent years, the event has taken place in Somerset House but this year it has moved to Brewer Street, in Soho, for the first time.
Things to look out for:
1. The designer showrooms
2. The emerging talent initiative NEWGEN which is sponsored by Topshop
3. London Fashion Week at Golden Square, where there will be screenings, pop-ups, exclusive offers and special events. The LFW outdoor cinema at Golden Square will feature live streaming from the catwalks, fashion films and digital presentations
4. The London Fashion Week Talk Series at the Condé Nast College of Fashion, featuring speakers Peter Pilotto and Zandra Rhodes
Notable mentions & ones to watch:
Designers showcasing their work this year include Danielle Romeril and Amanda Wakeley, returning designer Gareth Pugh and other established names such as House of Holland, Christopher Kane and Vivienne Westwood.
