Mulberry No More

Mulberry No More

Okay, that title was merely for dramatic effect. No need to panic, you will still be able to save up for your very own British-made gorgeous leather handbag for many, many years to come, but for February’s London Fashion Week, the quintessentially British brand has cancelled their showcase. It has been the news on every fashionista’s lips, dark berry stained of course, this week and has been met by disappointment and worry for the future of the Somerset-born brand.

What’s the reason behind Mulberry’s scheduled absence, you may all be wondering? The September 2013 show signified the end of an era as Creative Director, Emma Hill, stepped down from the role. Since her inauguration in 2007, the brand boomed and branched out as a global corporation. Hill’s masterstroke of creating a Ready to Wear collection for the brand raised it’s profile internationally and enabled mulberry to become part of the coveted London Fashion Week lineup. After all, we all love a good handbag, but to make a good catwalk, you need some clothes too! As well as the incorporation of classy, sophisticated and always beautifully on trend garments, Hill revitalized the accessories department also, with a revised Bayswater and the ‘It’ bag of the decade, the infamous ‘Alexa’, inspired by Miss Chung herself!

Since Emma Hill’s step down from the helm, the brand has failed to find a suitable successor to fill the extraordinarily large boots that Hill has left behind.  The executive decision to cancel the upcoming London Fashion Week show I’m sure was not an easy one, and I sincerely hope it does not negatively impact on the future of the brand. Lets hope that the September 2014 showcase is a scorcher!

Who will be the next Creative Director at Mulberry? Any suggestions for the Big Bosses of the brand? Hey Mulberry, fancy taking a chance on a talented 20 year old design student? Go on, you know you want to!
